Need help with Excel Formula

I have a column that contains either WON or LOST in it.
In another column I would like to total the number of times WON is entered into the first column and have it update every time another WON is entered. I will also have another column doing the same thing for the LOST entries. Can this be done..and if so..How do I do it??

Have a look at the CountIf function.

=countif(A:A,"Won")
