Hello,

I've been playing around in Photoshop for years and have always wondered how to do this, and now I NEED to and don't have a clue...

Is there a way to select in other than the four select tools given on the toolbar? I need the center of the picture I'm working with to be in a heart shape. Is there a way to select in a heart shape and then delete the inverse? It seems like this should be such a simple task but I'm stumped! Thank you for any help.

You can use the pen tool to make a rough heart shape then tweak the anchor points with the bezier handles to refine the shape. Next make a selection, do inverse selection and click the delete key. only the heart remains.

It takes some practice to use the bezier functionality but it will become a good friend when you become proficient.

another way could be to scan in a heart shape, resize and place it where you want then create and save a selection.

Load the saved selection over your pic, inverse selection and hit delete key, the heart selection will remain.

Thank you for your reply. I tried your suggestion about putting the heart over the picture, creating and saving the selection, then deleting the inverse. For some reason nothing is deleting. My son,who has more experience in Photoshop, will be here tomorrow. I'll have him try what you said and see if he can get it to work. Thanks so much.

I finally did it! After saving the selection, instead of selecting the inverse and hitting delete, I had to click the background layer, then delete. Then I dragged the second layer into the trash and had my heart shaped picture left. Thanks for your help!
