Need Help with 12 Hard Drives with SMB

is there a way that i could boot linux from a usb drive and just use it to show my 12 hard drives on the windows network
so that i can access it from within windows. I'm new to linux but have been using a program called NASlite+ and it works great just can only use 4 drives.

thanks its just that i am trying knoppix live dvd and somehow i can see my windows shares in linux but can't see my linux share in windows need a distro that installs samba and configures it with minimal effort don't know how to restart LISa.

ok got it it is named workgroup instead of mshome but still can't access it even with name and password whats the problem HELP PLSE

Can you post the relevant entries for your shares from your SAMBA configuration file?

where would that be and for some reason its not showing all available space on hard drive its just seeing about 523mb and i'm testing on a 60Gb hard drive what gives.

Can you post the output of the df -k command?

Try locate smb.conf to determine the location of your SAMBA configuration file. /etc or /etc/samba or /usr/local/samba/lib are likely possibilities. Look for the "Share Definitions" section near the end and make sure your shares are listed.

If you have no experience of Linux this may not be the most maintainable solution for you... can you boot Windows from the USB key?

hey thanks got it working just have to connect a sata controller card to see if it recognizes it so i can put the other 11 drives on it. What about Slax Server Edtion does it need minimal setup to configure. All i want is to be able to share my movie collection with my other windows pc's. Really sick of Microsoft. Have NASlite+ and it works like a charm but can only put 4 drives on it. thanks again
