Need help setting up SMC wireless card w/WinXP

I am having trouble setting up my SMC wireless network card. WinXP automatically detects the card, but it doesn't load any devices. I downloaded the latest driver from SMC but when I try to load it I get a message stating the wizard cannot find the necessary software.

I am getting really aggrevated and would appreciate any help I can get.

For the same sort of problem I reverted to 2K. XP set it up correctly but then upchucked it with a MS upgrade to the OS. Ed Fair

Does the device driver have a setup file? You could try that, rather than using the drivers wizard. Maybe XP is recognizing it as the wrong card.

I have tried setting it up using the downloaded file and it indicates that it is loading the correct named driver. It will load 2 out of the 3 pieces but the main driver itself always finishes with an exclamation mark.

My guess is that somewhere in XP's many updates it has changed something and now SMC's driver is no longer compatible.

install it with the exclamation mark, then go into device manager and "update" the driver. Sometimes microsoft will then find the correct "microsoft driver" for the device. (I had to do this once even though I had downloaded the newest driver from the manufacturer.)
