Scenario: i am planning to move data from FASTt600 to FASTt900. currently, the volume group has 2 hdisks that belongs to 600SAN.

My approach:

1. add 2 hdisks with same or higher space to the volume group. (i.e. these disks belongs to FASTt900).

extendvg hdiskXX hdiskXX

2.i can mirror the whole volume group using mirrorvg command with specific hdisks. From this i can ensure that mirrored copy on new hdisks (fastt900).

3.i am planning to split the mirrored vg using splitvg.

4. after this i don't know how to proceed???
what i want to do??:
1.once i split the VG, I want to unmount the filesystems that belongs to one copy..(original one) and mount the filesystems with new name.
2.i want to delete the LV or filesystems that resides on FASTt600 at the end of this procedure.
3.during the transistion, i need to keep both the copies and once the new copy is running fine then i will delete the whole copy that resides on 600 and run reducevg to remove the hdisks from vg.
4. finally i will have one copy of my VG that resides on fastt900.

i am running 5.2ML07.

I don't know how to proceed after splitvg..
any other better procedure is much appreciated!!!
advance thanks for the reply

to "switch" a filesystem between its splitted LV you can either (for temporar) modify /etc/filesystems or (for permanent) change the filesystem LV device using chfs command. After running chfs command on open LV you need to remount the filesystem.

chfs -a dev=/dev/asplittedlv /afilesystem

where a /dev/asplittedlv is located on your FAStT900...
and /afilesystem i the existing filesystem

thank you for your help. i do have one more question for you.

when i run splitvg command, i am just wondering DO we need to name devices(LV) expilicity or system will generate automatically.

thanks

system will generate it automatically.

-y SnapVGname Allows the volume group name to be specified rather than having the name generated automatically. Volume group names must be unique across the system and can range from 1 to 15 characters. The name cannot begin with a prefix already defined in the PdDv class in the Device Configuration database for other devices. The new volume group name is sent to standard output.
