Hi guys,

I have to do some work/investigation to help on HPUX systems. I am an admin system but not HP one...
I need to know how to make a backup and restore via Legato on HP-UX system and also where on the HP system the email is setted (it look likes some emails of backup system is sent on an old email adress and I need to change it...).

Thanks for any help.

Cheers.

uh, may I suggest to ask the backup admin to start this for you. This is easy anc compolex at the same time. If it is configured properly it's just a click for the admin...

>> where on the HP system the email is setted

* check the logfile of sendmail, which writes (usually) to /var/adm/syslog/mail.log vis syslogdaemon
* edit /var/mail/aliases if it uses mailaliases or mailinglists (run "newaliases" after editing the file)
* check if email works as expected:
echo testtesttest | mailx -s testmail emailadress@mydomain.tld

Best Regards, Franz

go to the 'legato back-up solution' group; the 'custom notification' is where you can start.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help.

I have one more question. I am a aix admin not hp and I would like to understand something on hpux.
On aix we do a mksysb to make bakup system, on hpux I think it is make_tape_recovery (I have to check for the option).
The thing is about legato, if I lose the prod system and want to restore from scratch the pro to another system hp, I should first restore the os from a tape containing only the os bakup not using the full backup legato tape where there is all the filestems (os and data).
I am sorry my question seems stupid but looking at hpux there is something strange for me (I would say I prefer aix...), the other thing as I see on the man if I want to increase a filesystem like /var I have to umount the filesystem and then do an extendlv ??? For me it becomes crasy to have to stop a prod machine to increase a filesystem... I am very confused, I am sure that we can dynamiccaly increase fs on hpux tell me yes please.. on aix 5.3 we can also dynamiccaly reduce a fs size now...

Hoping you will give me some lights...

The thing that nobody can't help me about legato it look like there is no admin...

Cheers.

part of your question is not legato related and the other part try fsadm

Hi Touny,

I will presume Legato is configured ...

From Legato server run nwadmin
Under client menu, find your server and note which group it's in
From command line ...

savegrp -l full -c "clientname" "groupname"

Far as /var is concerned, yep difficult to increase.
I personally find it useful to make it big enough in the first place, including future growth.
If onlineJFS is installed (additional package), then /var can be increased with the system up, no impact.

The equivilent of mksysb on HP-UX is ignite. I agree with you about AIX (being better - duck). Do you know what FS type you are using on the HP server. LVM / Veritas?
