I have a form and a subform in it. the subform is in datasheet view. what I'm trying to accomplish is that for one record you can see a list of data in the subform. but when I click to add a new record, the data in the subform stays there. I want all that data to go with the record in the main form. If I sound too confusing please let me know. thanks.

Hi,
I think from your description of the problem who haven't established a link (or a complete link) between the Form and SubForm.

If you go into design view on the MAin form and select the subForm item you should see in the list of properties one named "Link Child Fields" and another called "Link Master Fields" you must populate these with the Field(s) in the subform (Child) and Form (Master) which uniquely identify the records in the subform.

You can use more than one field using the semi-colon to seperate the fields, but you must have the same number of fields in both the "Link Child Fields" and the"Link Master Fields"

Hope this makes sense. Sandy
