Need help installing gcc

Hello,

I'm new to unix. I am trying to research on a tool for file integrity. I am currently reading up on ossec, samhain, and aide. I have downloaded them and tried installing them, however it seems that they require a compiler. Sun Studio 11 did not satisfy the requirement so I am trying to figure out how to install gcc.

Can anyone give me some pointers, I would appreciate it.
