Hey everyone fist post on this forum and what a cool forum this is. Well anyhow, I purchased a gateway m-1615, and I'm having such a hard time installing drivers for this machine. I need help specifically with the audio drivers. Anyone know of these drivers for windows xp???

There's a wealth of info here:

thread602-1376645

Also, pay special attention to:

The reading I have done indicates this needs to be done BEFORE installing audio & modem drivers. Best of luck in your quest.

Yes this is a great FORUM... it is usually not a good idea to cross post, ie. DRIVER problems are SOFTWARE and should therefore be posted in the WINDOWS XP FORUM

But anyhow take a look at: thread779-1329243

hope it gets you somewhere...

DRIVER problems are SOFTWARE

...that make HARDWARE work...can't say I agree with ya triple B. Hardware and their software drivers go hand-in-hand, and while many a hardware problem was fixed with the correct driver (software), I'm not sure it works the other way around. This is a hardware forum, and sometimes the solution is software, sometimes it's a more general issue like sequence of installation of software, as in this case.

Not trying to start a battle just trying to cut the new guy some slack...besides what difference does it really make??? I sometimes have problems selecting the correct forum...but I know the PC Hardware is a "hot" forum with lots of views and helpful gearheads. Case in point is my Gateway/Vista driver post from June which was ignored on the XP forum is still alive with 116 contributions on this forum.

all is fine Tony, and I have always respected your opinion and what you had to say, and will do so in the future, so no hard feeling on my side and I hope on yours aswell...
I originally had written something else, which would have come across as being too HARSH, and I edited it to tone it down, guess I missed the spot...

Hardware and their software drivers go hand-in-hand
this is true... without the drivers the hardware is useless...

and it really does not make a diff to me at all... just trying to point him in the correct direction...

about your post from June (XP FORUM), I wondered why it did not take off at all... I guess there are some that just KNOW windows and then there are those who know both HARD and OS...
