Hello! I am pretty noobish when it comes to phone systems, so I need "hold-your-hand" instructions on how to set this up. I need to set up a few mailboxes that aren't tied to an extension. I came across this post explaining how to create virtual DN's:

but it is a bit confusing to me. I have created mailboxes, changed AA and CCR settings and used to admin a BCM400 unit (that has a nice web interface that made these things easier). This MICS system has you program everything from a 16-button phone. If someone could better explain the above post (ie. how to build the target line) I'm sure I can make this happen. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

I should have mentioned...I already have an old phone locked away in my server room that I used to set up a corporate compliance hotline (I didn't know about the virtual DN's then and thoght this was the only was to get a mailbox). I've read other posts that say you can multiple virtual DN's on an old phone and set up your mailboxes that way, but again I would need help in doing this! Thanks!

Virtual DN is another topic so assume you just want the above?.

When creating a guest mailbox mailbox use numbers out of range such as 300 (if your phones are 200)
When it asks for Ext: just use *

Hi curlycord! Thanks for the info, but the problem is I need people to be able to dial an extension internally and get to the mailbox. My boss is very picky and doesn't want to have to use the Feature key/code to get to the mailbox. He wants people to be able to dial 300 and get the corporate compliance mailbox, dial 400 and get the happiness hotline, etc. I thought that is where the virtual DN comes in, they can dial the virtual DN (300 for example) and it will ring right to a mailbox where they can leave a message.

If you follow Curly's instructions it will- just make sure you set the Call Forward in system programing/"terminals and sets" and then "Capabilities" to forward to the VM port, then set the # of rings. Find the VM port # by entering F985.

That worked! Thanks mikepfm and curlycord!
