Dear all,
Can the catalog for one master server restore to another master server with different server hardware spec and different backup device? Thanks for advices.

The Netbackup catalog is a database, not dependant on hardware. For you second question, you will need the same device or one that is backwards compatible with the media.

hi comtec17,

That means we can restore the catalog to different hardware spec master server? And then ensure that the backup device is readeable &compatible with the tape or media?
thanks.

Yes Wenyee99, we've in fact just done this, moving from a E280R to a v440 server.
Just make sure they are the same name and the IP addresses are the same for the new server as the old server.
The tape drive type may not be as important, cause you can use a disk based catalogue backup - or as we did you a NFS mount to present the /usr/openv directory to the new server. This assumes you are running UNIX of some kind. Not so sure how easy that would be to do with Windows.

REMEMBER though the servers MUST have the same name (if you want to change the name you'll need to engage Symantec Consultancy Services - as this is a real b*tch to do!!). The servers must have the same IP addresses (ideally). And they should not be on the network at the same time (otherwise this could confuse things no end!!).
