Hello everyone, I have been lurking here for a while and really am frustrated with Adobe. I purchased 5.0.2 in 2000 and in the process of moving twice I lost my product registration card and serial number. They were totally unhelpful and basically told me because its an older version they have no interest in helping me. Well I paid allot for this program and do not wish to (nor am I financially able) to spend the money.

ADDITIONALLY they said they would sell me a complete version of Photoshop at the upgrade price of $170. I told Jason ID # 3082 that I could buy the Upgrade at a website for $130 and he said well we don’t have any control over that.....

Does anyone have or know how I could get the Serial Number for this product? I bought this via credit card and even offered to send them my receipt....they were totally unhelpful!

Email me or post here pleaseeeee!

If you have the credit card info, then I have a hard time believing that Adobe customer support would rfuse to help you. Something about your story just doesn't sound right, because they are usually very helpful with this sort of thing, even though the product is 4 versions out of date.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Ok, not looking to insult anyone.....but this is a legit query. Adobe can not Issue a new serial number for an out-of date version. I had this conversation minutes ago...If I had 6.0 this guy told me I would still be SOL.

"Something about your story just doesn't sound right"

Something about your reply seemed less than helpful.

It seems that you are asking for an illegal serial number. that equates to piracy. Sorry, I help every way I can, but only within the limits of the law.

I participate in Abobe's forums, and have found their customer support to be very helpful even for requests such as yours.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Well you would think that would be the case, not withstanding your apparent affiliation to the Adobe group.

I on the other had do not have Adobe's ear, I have a job that needs to get done by tonight and would very much like to use Photoshop to finalize my JPG's.....

The fact is that it is partially my fault for not registering my product, but you can call anyone @ Adobe you like and ask them if they have the capability to re-activate or reissue a Seial Number for an out of date version.....please do.

And it is the equilivate of Highway robbery to take the product I paid for and refuse to help me..basically telling me to buy a newer version or tough luck.

Is this not illegal?

OH I was told a manager would call me back in 48 hours....wonder what he will tell me?

Always register your product. You jeopardized every way possible to get help since you didn't register. So Adobe is no way able to help you since they can't match name/adress to a registered product. For situations just like you are in now, you caused it by not registering, or , keeping the original documentation with your serial numbers handy.

You have created the problem for yourself, and NO ONE but ADOBE can help you. They offered you a solution, but you refuse to take that information. They can't
just give you a number for a program they dont even know that you even legally own. If you had registered your product, then you wouldn't be in the predicament you are in.

BTW, they gave me my serial number for PS 4.0 when I registered it 6 years ago, and they didn't tell me that its too old (because of a flood, all of my computer items were destroyed). My information was still in their DB to retrieve. I still use PS 4.0 on one PC.

Pay the upgrade price! That's a great deal! If you can get it for $130, take it! Otherwise, pay Adobe what they want. It's a lot better than buying a totally new package. I suspect most people here have paid to upgrade older versions of Photoshop.

As far as Adobe is concerned, they cannot help you since they cannot verify that you legally own the software. That's why registering your software is important. You can pay all the money in the world for a program, but if you dont "tell" them that you legally own the program, they can't do anything for you. Registration is optional (not anymore in the new versions), but you take your chances if you dont register, even so, forfitting any support you may need in the future.

Wizy, just a note, registering IS still optional, it's ACTIVATION thats compulsory, now. You do not to be registered to activate :)

Spicolicpa ,

You say that you need to finish a job with photoshop. Goto the adobe site and download ver7 or cs (trial version) so that you can at least get your work done.

Not registering your product is definetely the problem. Even though you have purchased a legit version adobe has no way to confirm that your version is in fact legit, therefore they cannot confirm your version or issue a serial. Anyone off the street could call them up saying they have PS5 and they lost the serial then get one and viola, free version of photoshop, all that's left to do is get the upgrade.

Sorry.

Well thanks to everyone for replying. I still debate the fact that while I was willing to fax them a credit card bill they still were unhelpful, how is this OK?

Its a very old version, regadless, so it is not in direct competition to their newer version.

I think that the "trial version" will not allow me to save to file.

Oh well, I stand disgruntled.

spico,

how would they know that its you who is sending the information? They dont. It oculd have been someone who got a hold of your cc slip/receipt and wanted to fax that in.

The trial version is complete in every way to the full version, the only difference is the time activation. It stops working after 30 days.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

>It stops working after 30 days.

or if you change your system clock. so be careful!
