Hello Ppl,

I have now taken ownership of out NNM + openview platform. I have been on the Openview course (Prt1) through HP but that was 6mnths ago. (It was supposed to be this month but we had a _dispute_ with the supplier)

We had the supplier come in and set-up everything up and all was okay.

Now I have come to look at it the Maps are in a terrible state. Somebody has tried customizing them and failed and left it.

I am having trouble bringing my knowledge to the surface at the minute and my main problem is adding nodes. I cannot remeber how to add/delete nodes from the actual database. Help on this would be very much appreciated. I am sure that once I master that and get going it will all start to flood back, just at a stop at the minute.

At the minute when I add an object to the map the name starts with REMOVED:.... I am assunimng this is becuase that my 'objects' are not in the database.

Many Thanks in advance (you'll get one if you help me as well :) )

Cheers

If it's logical, it'll work!

You can use the "loadhosts" command to add devices manually to the topology database. Take a look at the manpage for loadhosts. i fthe map is all messed up you can always just create a new map by going to the MAP dropdown menu and choose new map. this will create a new map DB and will start you off with a fresh map of all the devcies in your database.

NOTE: use the loadhosts command with caution. make sure to read teh man page first and make sure that you have the right subnet mask for you devices that you are adding.

here is an example of how to use teh command....

from the prompt type:
>loadhosts -m 255.255.255.0 <pres enter>
10.10.10.1 test.system.com <press enter>
ctrl+c <this will break you out of the loadhosts>

hope this helps

The objects have been marked ad REMOVED in the OpenView database, and therefore when adding to the map it is displayed the name as in the database. The easiest way to resolve this is by running the following command:-

/opt/OV/bin/ovtopofix -r

This command will mark the objects as removed in the IP topology database. Removed objects will then be deleted from the map the next time the map is opened.

Hope this helps..

Golden rules of NNM + HP-OV admin:
Make sure ALL the maps are closed
ovstop netmon
ovtopofix -a
ovw -mapcount -ruD (efectively deletes every object marked as removed, etc...)
ovtopofix -n (will show you the objects marked as deleted/removed/etc...)
ovstart netmon

Also before adding/modifyng any objects/nodes make sure they are properly configured on your DNS.

And that should do the trick...
