We already have 20 DID numbers we are using on our system
447-2000 thru 447-2019 We just purchsed 20 additional DID numbers 447-0380 thru 447-0399 and I can not figure out how to add these into the system as valid extension numbers currently everyone has an extension that is the last four digits of their DID number so adding these I thought would be a snap but I have looked in the system manual and can not find how to assign these to the system so they can be assigned to STN #'s. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I have the Merlin Magix Integrated system Release 1.0 System programing manual also have the PDF MERLIN MAGIX®
Integrated System
System Manager’s Quick Reference
Release 3.0
I have printed reports in TXT format so I can supply whatever you may need to assist

The Processor is CKE5
Hardware Vintage 2

First off, there is a way do to DIGIT ABSORPTION and DELETION to "massage" a number being sent to match a number in your dial plan.

However, you will probably have trouble using ANY NUMBER being sent to you with a leading ZERO.

These issues need to be taken care of at the time the service is ordered, your vendor certainly has no idea about the workings of your phone system, and will just send you what ever they want to send.

I would recommend that you negotiate with your service provider to get a range that does not start with ZERO.

In fact, if I was the consultant ordering this service, I would have asked for something that would start with 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7 (2 preferred of course) and then have the last 3 digits in the range of 020 to 039.

See if you can get them to do that for you.

I agree with Merlinman 100%. Call the service provider and request a different block of DID numbers that are in the same thousand block that you already have to make it easier. Tell them that those numbers, 447-0380-0399 are unacceptable and won't work with your system. The service providers have no clue about what works and what does not work, since 99% of them don't even know what a "MAGIX" is. If nothing is left in the 447-2xxx range, then go to the 447-3xxx and so on.

Now sometimes you have to do your own searching for vacant numbers, but that can be complicated if you don't know what you are doing. That is especially true these days with Number Portability and Number Pooling @ the thousand block level.

They will be assigning new number with eiter a starting 2 or 3
So the number will be 447-2xxx or 447-3xxx. I should be getting these later today. That being said how do I get these into the system as valid phone extensions so that an outside user can call directly to the inside user with one of these new extensions? Also inside users should be able to dial one of the new 4 digit extension to cal that inside user.

In the System Managers Reference there should be a section on RENUMBERING, that should provide the steps involved to renumber a station port. If you get stuck or confused post back. Are you programming from the Console or SPM?

I could not find where to assign the new 4 digit extensions to the station port. I am using SPM. What do I renumber
Extension? Lines ??? step by step would help

You have 2 choices:

1) You could, under system renumber, change the extensions to match the numbers being sent by the provider

-OR-

2) In the PRI tables, do digit absorb and add to change the incoming number to match your extensions.

I like merlinman choice #2,
Entry Number: 4
A NtwkServ: Any service
A Expected Digits: 4
A Pattern to Match: 3
A Digits to Delete: 1
A Digits to Add: 2

this is rough because we do not yet know what the numbers are, so I will make up something, if your new DID's are 3030-3049 the above is what you would program, the system would look for the best match of 4 digits being sent with a lead 3, we are deleting the first digit and replacing it with a 2, so your new did ext numbers would be 2030-2049. keeping your ext all in the 20xx range.

The subject of System Renumbering is covered beginning on page 786 in the Feature Reference 3.0 document. It is very complete and explains the numbering plan of the Magix. In the System Managers QRG in chapter 3, Managing Lines and Telephones, renumbering is covered there starting on page 28.

Hope this helps!
