Hello All!

I am just recently trying to start working with Crystal Reports. What I need first is a way to generate a form letter to several people pulled from an SQL query. (Some thing like name, address, Dear Mr. Crystal, we recently reviewed your file and ..., but I want one for several different people.) Every example I have found is for when I want to calculate totals on some month or something like that. Can someone point me in the right direction to find such an example? I have several books and NONE of them do this!

I am using Crystal Reports in Visual Studio.Net 2003 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in Advance!
Kimberly

One of the standard wizards in Crystal Reports is a Form Letter.

It works similarl;y to a conventional mail merge in that it will use one row per report and then issue a page break and start over.

Try File->New and see if it's a choice in your version, I don't have it to check.

Even if you have to hand roll it, this is a very simple concept, just issue a new page after at the page footer level and place your text/fields in whatever section might be appropriate (hard to advise whether you need multiple rows withou understanding the scope of the letter).

I know this is an old post but my problem has some similarities.

I am trying to create a Form Letter picking up data from an MS Access (2000 format) Database query.

The query returns two records, but when I create a Form Letter in CR 8.5 I only get 1 letter, whether I use the Wizard or create it manually.

With the Wizard, it seems to mix the text from 2 records into the body of the letter.

I have tried putting the "merge" fields in the Page and Report Headers, then I just get record 1 of 1.

I can't figure what is going on here! Any advice appreciated!

Hey,

I have the same question. I never worked before with crystal reports and i am looking for an 'How To do' to create something like a mail merge.

Is there somebody how has that or a mink where I can find it.

Thanks

You should start a new thread as most won't read something this old.

Also include technical information:

Crystal version
Database/connectivity used

At any rate, you can use Insert->Text and type whatever text you want and then when you need a field from the database to make it dynamic, just drop the field into the text object.

I think I now know where I went wrong with using the Wizard.

I didn't create a Group. When I created a Form letter manually I had to Group on each LetterID and put a New Page after each Group Footer to get each letter to print individually.

That now works.
