Okay, so I cannot seem to figure out what my "error" is in my report.
I am trying to set my prompt up so that it sorts my date (months only) in order of their value (Jan = 01, Feb = 02 etc) instead of in the standard alphabetical order (April, August, etc etc). Now when I set up my prompt page to start with and had the month prompt (all 12 months in the check box format) sorted in the standard aplhabetical way, my report works fine and I get the results I estimated I would. But when I change my query so that my usevalue is now 01-12 (numberic values for the months) instead of text and I leave my display value as the name of the month itself, my prompt page works correctly, but when I hit "finish" to generate my report, it gives me no error and generates no output on the cognos viewer page, minus the date and time at the bottom of when the report was compiled, why is this? Everything works perfectly until I change the usevalue from text to numeric in my query

The usevalue is what is used in the reportquery. It's value(s) are passed on to the parameter that feeds the report query. If you change the usevalue , then you need to align the reportquery as well (and you probably did not , which results in no data retreived)

What do you mean by align the reportquery? I have made sure to refresh and re-enter the usevalue and make sure it is pulling from the right place, what else is required to align the report query once I change the usevalue in the date query were I pull the months from?

I assume that you use the datequery in a prompt. The prompt is associated with a parameter.
The report query would have a filter that references the parameter value like:

Code:
[some_namespace].[somedate] in ?dateparameter?

If the usevalue is set to the numeric values, then these values are passed to the parameter.

The filter in the reportquery would need a dataitem that references these numeric values..
