Need BCM 2.5 and 3.0 Hard Drive Image to repair and replace a bad hard drive.

You can do this with a new system. When you have a new system, you can create a backup harddisk with ghost ! You should do this after initialize..

They don't make new systems with 2.5 or 3.0 anymore and if I make it a 3.6 image the modem is differant than on 2.5 and 3.0. that's why I wanted a 2.5 or 3.0 image so I could start at 2.5 or 3.0 and do upgrades to 3.6 and this way the modem gets upgraded with the right driver for that modem.

I was wondering if anyone had these images they could Email to me.

HI acewarlock

What size of hardrives?

I would suspect that one of them will be the smaller hardrive not the 20 gig hardrive required for 3.6

Is the hardrive damaged or are there certain files missing?

I have used FRU 3.6 hardrive to upgrade BCM 1000 2.0 to 3.6 and had no problems with drivers.

Just needed to make sure after installing the new hardrive that I flashed the MSC card.

I might be able to help with the 3.0 image will let you know

There 20G drives. I have about 5 old BCM 1000 in the field and when I rebuild these old BCM's I want to start with 2.5 and work my way up to 3.6 so I don't lose the Driver's for the older cards in them. I tried just going to 3.6 but the modems didn't work because the drivers on 3.6 don't work on the old modems.

Have you tried putting the files on the discs via the command prompt or putting the hardrives in a NTFS machine windows NT or 2000 and copying the files accross.

I mean for the modem drivers. Not the BCM software. The only other place you can get them from is Nortel with the imaging tool.

But I have a 2.5 hardrive about somewhere will see if I can find it check it still works.

MRMARSHALL

Please say more on flashing the MSC card.
I have run upgraded hard drives without ever knowing about flashing the MSC.
I just copied a 2.0 to a new HD on an old edge and had the whole unit roll over and die about two weeks later. Luckily it was a test unit. Can you flash a Ver. 1 to a 1.1?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Narsbars

You should flash the MSC card if you have upgraded the hardrive. The system will check the version on the harddrive and the version on the card. If there is a mismatch you will need to flash or upload the MSC card to have the MSC version on the hardrive match the MSC card. The system will work, but when you try to apply patches and upgrades in the future the system will not pass the self diagnostics and not allow you to patch or upgrade.

On earlier BCM versions you will get driver fails and various other problems.

There is a procedure in the manual to replace a hardrive or upgrade.

It is on page 236 of the Installation and Maintenace section under BCM 200 and 400.

The modems on BCM 400 are imbedded on the motherboard, the one's on the BCM 1000 are regular modem cards using differant drivers. I do need a 3.0 image, how big is it?

Thank you, but I am having a serious blank spot.
How do you flash an MSC card?
Where do you get the files to flash with?
How do you flash?

I have flashed bios, Hard drives, and campuses but I admit to being lost here.

When I tried to do a 3.6 upgrade to a HD I had cloned the upgrade failed due to the size of the HD (120 gigs).

ACEWARLOCK, I think you have my email. email about the disk image. NARSBARS

Did the cloning do a disk image? I don't think cloning is the same as a disk image. We use ghost to do imaging and we have used 40 gig drives with no problems.

The flash is done though the serial port.
menu option 1
than
menu option 2 MSC Upload

I used Partition Magic. The only catch is that you must first do a shut down from the serial port in order to close all open file handlers or the copy will not work.

Are you saying that you must upload the MSC card to the new HD? By doing a clone I am carrying over all of the information on the existing disk, including drivers and key codes.
You are right about the difference between a disk image (fresh install) as opposed to a clone (copies existing). Can I bang my own forehead now for not seeing the difference earlier?

NARSBARS

If your replacing an old hard drive with an older version like 3.0 with a new hard drive with version 3.6 already on it, you do an upload to the MSC.

MrMarshall,

Do you still have the 2.5 20 gig image file around? I need it to do a restore to and then I'm going to upgrade it so as to preserve the customer data. Let me know if I can get a copy of it on an ftp site and I'll give you my email for the link.

Thanks.

No I lost a hard drive on my PC that I used to store all the BCM images on and some dip stick has upgraded the 2.5 to 3.6 even know we had plenty of 3.6 BCM systems.

Marshall

I have a 2.5 image now, but it is a large file. Do you have a way for me to send it to you??????

Acewarlock,

Someone else put it a file up for me on an FTP site? I don't know if that's a possibility? Then they provided me with a link to that site. Any other ideas?

As follow-up they didn't put up a 2.5 image for me, so I still need one. A 2.5 20gig image virgin or not doesn't matter.
