Long Story - Read many of the threads here, but would like some confirmation on actions.

I am logging on to a network via Novell Client32 as the Main Server is a Novell 5 unit. We also have had an old XP 2000 Server with Active Directory on the same network.

When logging on with XP Pro I was getting:
"A domain controller for your domain could not be contacted. You have been logged on using cached account information. Changes made to your profile since you last logged on may not be available."

Which didn't seem to prevent me from doing anything.
We upgraded the XP 2000 Server, I decided (foolishly) to try and contact the domain. It seemed like I managed to do so, however when I restarted the PC, I was issued with a new, basically empty profile.
If I look at Docs and Settings, I have 3 folders
Default User
MyName
MyName.000

I have tried creating new users and logging on as administrator, however, reagrdless of who I log on as I end up using the MyName.000 profile. I can't copy all the details from MyName to MyName.000 as it is the currently active profile.

And finally to top it off I am again getting the domain controller message, and if I now try to create a new user, it says I can't because of a "Trust" issue.

I am tempted to go in at repair level and rename MyName.000 to something else and rename MyName to Myname.000. Do you think this would work?

You need to have Domain Controller Administrator rights to do what you want to do.

Let your IT guys handle the copy for you.

If you really want to try: At the logon screen you should see that you have a scrollable list of logon locations. You want to logon as administrator on your Local machine console.

Use Windows Explorer to copy all the non-root settings of your old profile to the new one. By non-root I mean not the c:\MyUser settings, you will be able to copy all of the subdirectories under c:\MyUser.

Now under the root of c:\MyUser copy everything that does not have the word NT in it to c:\MyUser.000

As I was unable to create any profiles I managed to get round it by..

Starting in Safe Mode

Using Explorer I was able to change Myname.000 to Myname.001 and Myname to MyName.001

The next reboot bought back my original profile (after XP had a little think!). To top it off My Domain controller was available again![bigsmile]
