I have just installed PageMaker 7 on my new Dell 8200 computer running Windows XP.

I was running it previously on my old Windows 98 machine.

Every time I launch the program I get a message that says...

"The procedure entry point WNetEnumCachedPasswords could not be located in the dynamic link library MPR.dll."

I have removed and reinstalled the application but the message remains. After closing the Window PageMaker runs normally but I would like to get rid of the message.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

First turn off Nortons or any AV, etc.. then install under admin log in. Is this XP home or pro? If Pro, tyrin creatin another user account with admin privileges, and then see if you can run it. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Nohjekim, I know this is an old posting, but did you ever solve this problem to your satisfaction and how did you do it? I am experiencing exactly the same with my new Dell, and any help will be appreciated.

Hi Kmsmas

Yes I did solve the problem but it has been so long that I don’t' remember how I did it.

Since them I have upgraded to a new Dell XPS (just a week ago) and when I installed PageMaker I didn't run into this problem.

Now I have switched to InDesign CS2 as well.

I do think that I got the solution to this on the “Adobe” “PageMaker Forum”, so you might want to search or ask there.

I have also had good luck by just entering the error message in Google on occasion. You could try that too.

Good Luck

Mike

Mike, Thanks for your latest reply. :)

I finally managed to sort it all out. Contrary to Retired(2) above, the WinEnum password problem can exist in XP. The Adobe PM Forum was also bemused that the problem occurred in XP.

Adobe Helpline finally advised that the Mapi32.dll file, which is relevant to this error, must be dated 8/2/96 (NT Workstation) or 8/9/96 (NT Server) or later. Once this was clear, Dell was able to guide me to finding the old Mapi file and replacing it with the correctly dated one. Since then, no problems.

As they say in the fairy tales, all's well that ends well!

Thanks
Katharine
