Need an option on SQL course VS VB. 1

I am trying to learn more about how to use vb coding
with my Access database. My community college are offering
online courses in Intro to SQL and one on Intro to VB.

Can someone tell me which course I would most likely need
to take? Also, if I could afford both, in which order
I should take them.

Caution: Be sure the course is for VBA (For Microsoft Office applications) and not VB. There is a difference. VB would be better than nothing, but there is a lot in VB that isn't in VBA.

Hi Seawave,

I've recently been in the same position and if I were you, and the VB course is an Access/Office specific one, I would definitely do that first. VBA is much more complicated than SQL (unless you are wanting to do very fancy things with queries.

SQL you can pick up reasonably easily - do what you want to do in the query design grid and then look at SQL view. Also the books I've come across on SQL are easier to understand than the VBA ones.

Take the VBA class (or just VB, if it's not for applications).

You can get SQL by using the query builder and then looking at it in SQL view. It's pretty easy to do that and then make minor changes, either manually or through VBA.

Of course, you can do a lot with VBA by just using the wizards or macros, and converting them to modules. Then, you can make small changes as needed.
