I need advice about my schooling. Two years ago i took a computer information systems program. I now have my diploma in that area. I also currently work for a retail computer store, as a computer tech. I have been working there for about 5-6 months now and I feel the need to move on with my training or whatever because im only making $10 an hour. right now im investigating certificate programs at a training institution. one is the MCSE which is $10000. another is a networking course which gives the MCP, Citrix certified, and Cisco certified which will cost about $7000 I just don't know what is in high demand right now. what is best for me? If I do take my training it will be about 9 hours from where i live so I need to make a wise and benefical decision.

I live in british columbia, planning on moving to alberta

thanx for your help

it all comes down to what you now. I say learn cisco and citrix but take some college that will make you more well rounded So long and thanks for all the fish.

I agree with gunthnp... having some college courses (with maybe even a degree) will make you a well rounded person -- it should also help with general business success.

Regarding the specific direction of certification, it depends on what you want to do. A degree or certificate is great, but you also should enjoy whatever you are certified at. I can tell you that there is a good demand and great pay for Citrix-certified individuals in New England. The Cisco certifications (CCNA and even CCDA) are a great path too. There sure are a lot of MSCEs out there.

The biggest thing that I can say is learn what you are certified at. A certification will get you in the door at a company, but if you can't utilize what you should know... you'll be in trouble.
