I have a dead HARDDRIVE (Matrox 6.3 gb) and want to recover the info. My system bios will detect it (the harddrive) but I cannot access or retrieve the partition. I've used partition magic, fdisk and even hooked it up to a different machine to recover the partition with no luck. I'm pretty sure the the HD controller is shot! My question is, are there any other software or techniques avaiable to gain access to the info!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thx

What does fdisk report for partitions? If none then try fdisk /mbr and try again.
Is the drive spinning? Best to have it out and in hand to feel. If not spinning then try to break it loose. With power off rotate with one hand as fast as you can in the same plane as the disks would be spinning and stop it with the heel of your other hand.
I've never known Matrox to build hard drives. Maybe Maxtor? Ed Fair

Hi edfair

Fdisk reports "no access" so fdisk /mbr dosen't work and yes the drive spins up, also sorry for the typo!

Only solution at this point is a recovery company.
Possible you could swap out the controller board but I would be hesitant to try it since you could do damage to data.
