I am looking for a drawing program that is Easier, smaller and cheaper than Corel Draw.

micrografx is pretty basic but will do a lot with photos and downloads not very expensive either. look for older version micrografx 5.....very easy to work with.

Many CorelDraw users have REMAINED with CORELDRAW 5.0 - which has been selling for UNDER $100. You might have to do a little looking, perhaps even going to the source - Corel Corporation, but it will be "well worth the trip".

CorelDraw 5.0 is an EXCELLENT version. In additon, it comes with a SIGNIFICANT BONUS ...other software which comes as part of CorelDraw's "Suite". This includes "CorelChart" - which is unquestionably THE BEST software on the market for development of CHARTS and GRAPHS.

CorelChart is EXCEEDINGLY Superior to Microsoft's "charting engine" which is found in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint).

The "beauty" of CorelChart is that charts & graphs can be TOTALLY embedded within PowerPoint presentations. This is to say, that these charts/graphs can actually be saved right WITHIN a PowerPoint file. When the PowerPoints file is loaded, the user only has to "right-click" on the chart/graph and choose "Open in CorelChart". This will launch BOTH CorelChart and the chart/graph. When you update a chart/graph, Control-S works like normal. This "interaction" between CorelChart (and other CorelDraw objects) works EXTREMELY WELL - in fact SO well, that it actually works BETTER than Microsoft's own products.

CAUTION: If you want to go with the CorelDraw 5.0 "Suite", be aware that you should STICK to this PARTICULAR version (5.0) - BECAUSE Corel Corporation stopped providing support for "CorelChart" beyond the CorelDraw 5.0 Suite. Specifically, there are "filters" which are REQUIRED in order that CorelChart be compatible with later versions of CorelDraw and PowerPoint, and Corel Corporation has NOT yet provided these filters.

This of course is a REAL DUMB decision on the part of Corel Corporation. They don't seem to appreciate that they HAD the BEST product on the market for producing charts and graphs. And, to this day, CorelChart version 5.0 is STILL FAR SUPERIOR. So, hopefully Corel Corporation will finally "come to their senses" and provide the require "filters". And, along with a little advertising, the world will "line up" to purchase this FAR BETTER alternative to Microsoft's charting option.

I hope this serves to enlighten you about this terrific alternative.

One program that has been largely overlooked is Deneba's Canvas. This program combines vector and raster graphics as well as page layout. It also can be used for web page creation. You can download a 15 day trial version from Unfortunately there are no 3rd party books to help you learn the program but there is a forum that you can go to for advice. The people who frequent this forum are very knowlegeable and helpful, (

An "easier" program than CorelDraw?! Does one exist?! I have yet to find one that is as user friendly. However, version 10 is by far the most unstable. I get the "Application Recovery Manager" at every turn. Good luck in your quest.

I have installed Corel Draw 6. But I cannot open Corel 4 files. Any suggestions?
