hi, does anyone know a specific cmyk or pantone color for printing that looks the most like GOLD? (real gold, like gold foil). they will be printed from a digital color printer, so they know it is not going to be "real gold", and thats ok. anyone with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks! alison

Is this letters or an object you want to be gold?

it is going to be a rectangular shaped box, all gold

The best thing to do is use a combination of yellow and orange. There is a native style in photoshop for a chrome look. Window > Styles apply that to it but then go into the blending options and change the colors you see there and you should get a nice reflective looking gold color.

The unfortunate thing about metallics is that the conversion to CMYK can be quite subjective. Gold reflecting white is quite different to gold reflecting a color. The CMYK reference you gave may look a little dark, but it depends on the context. As Nate alluded to, you may be better off going for a style rather than a solid color to give the impression of how a reflective gold surface would react to light.

If you do go for a solid, try using fewer process colors to get a cleaner print. A good way to start this is to take the color you have and increasing the S(aturation) component to 100%. Now you can see which colors are most important (CMY), so increase these slightly and remove the black. Something close to your estimate would be 40/42/100/0. This will help with registration and produce a more vibrant color. The 100% yellow will also provide a solid base.
