Hello,

What function would I use to compare data?

I have two tabs, tab1 and tab2 in a workbook. In tab1 I have a list of work order numbers 100 thru 200 and in tab2 I have identical information with work order number 100 thru 300.

I would like to extract the duplicate work order numbers within tab1 and tab2 with a function. The duplicate data can be place in another tab or column.

Apreciate the help.

Hi,

The MATCH function can be used.

Hey Skip,

I am not real experienced in these functions, but I will try. I was reading that the "Match" function will get the relattive position of an item...

Is it possible to get the actual value? For example, I need to see the value WO100 that is in both tab1 and tab2.

Well, if you use MATCH and you get a numeric offset returned, guess what. The VALUE is the same as the Lookup Value.

If you get #N/A, there is NO MATCH. The Lookup Value is UNIQUE.

Look in the help files for:

INDEX/MATCH, VLOOKUP & LOOKUP

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.
