dave or old ,
i need a dummies walk through for fading text.
want my text to come out from being invisible fade up and away.i know this is dumb but i am having problems .the alpha thing.trying to understand.

thanks in advance(don't laugh it's not funny)

ok old i remember you saying this:

fade in hold fade out
0-------0-------------0---------0
motion between 1-2 and 3-4
frame 1 alpha 0
last frame alpha 0

two questions:
1)when converting to symbol, which symbol do i convert to.
2)and how do i access the alpha settings.

if it is in the mixer pallete i change the alpha to 0 but it does nothing.

Do you want a short .fla answering your question?

Here's how I faded.
Create your text.
Place it where u want it.
Click on INSERT, Convert to Symbol
Then click on the timeline how long u want the whole thing to last.
Press f6 to make it a key frame.
Somewhere between the first and last keyframe, right click and make and Create Motion Tween
Click somewhere in the middle and create a 3rd keyframe

Example KF=keyframe

KF1................KF3................KF2

Click on the first keyframe (KF1)
then click on MODIFY, then Instance
Once you choose Alpha...... set the number to 0
For keyframe 3 (KF3) set it to 99 (not 100, it jerks)
For keyframe 2 set it to 0

Hope I havent left anything out.

maybe try this...........
