necessasity of domain or not

I am little confused in getting if there is any necessasity of domain or we can make any distributed application if our company has workgroup installed only

to make distributed applications is enough computters to be connected in some way

The efficient way depends on the application which is going to be distributed...

hi.
Infact there're some major configuration you need to do before you run application on Workgroup architecture. Its very easy to configure your applicaiton on Domain architecture but in case of Workgroup, you need to use slightly different stretegy.

Some of the major things you need to makre sure first, they're following :

If the Application server running onto Win98 machine then you've to run remote procedure call utilitiy (RPCSS.exe)manually on startup. Main problem with Win98,Win95,WinME is that these operating systems don't have capability to launch application remotely but this feature available on WinNT, 2000 Professional and so on Also DCOM setting slightly change in case of Workgroup..
