Hi, having a spot of bother with an NEC XN120

We are quite used to installing these systems and find them quite a capable little switch for the money.

The problem I am having is that a customer would like to put two groups of lines onto the system and to select one group by dialling a 9 and the other group by dialling an 8.

Question 1 is this possible?

Question 2 What are the programming codes and process for this if it is possible or is there some documentation available?



 
Yes this is possible:
If using featurephone you can do it very easily by giving them *05 loop/call keys with the keys set to required trunk groups (14-05).

Or for the exact scenario (of 8 and 9 access) use the alternate trunk access code 11-09-02 to setup the lines access to the required trunk group and a new trunk route (14-05 and 14-06).
As service codes use 8xx, you will need to change these (can do it in excel very quickly) to make then *8xx etc.
Dont forget to amend system numbering 11-01 for number of digits etc for *8xx service codes and amend 8 to Individual Trunk.
Then to any required extensions in 21-15 assign th alternate trunk route you chose in 14-06 (i.e. 2).

Errrm not really sure how to explain it in more detail Yorkie without spending a couple of hours doing screenshots and text expanations as I have given you the program codes for the steps you need to go to, you could read up the features and specifications manual for "loop keys" but I don't think alternate trunk access is really covered manual wise.

I don't know any websites that will have exact programming info on a feature.
Presume you are using PC Pro to configure the system?
If the customer has all featurephones then the loop key method will be far simplier and quicker for you to do.
Are you ok with setting up Loop/Call keys?
 
Sibel, were are not using a pc to programme, just a vision telephone and the CD instructions, maybe that's the problem? Shouldn't be though?

Have managed to program on the line groups and and access codes but unable to access 2nd group with code.

Will have another look tomorrow.

These are very clever little switches with hundreds of features and options, if you are regularly installing these then I strongly suggest you use the PC Pro tool from a laptop to configure the system as some settings will be a nightmare from phone programming.
You need the laptop to update firmware and voicemail anyway so bin the phone programming - you can create country/customer specific templates or use the QI tool as otherwise it just a little system for internal calls and dial 9 for a line and not much else - I don't where you are but in the UK there are quite a few standard settings that need changing from out of box condition and for ISDN or VoIP - I would not fancy having to do all these by phone programming on every job!
 
Sibel, yes they are very clever little switches, and very good because as they modular they can grow with the customer and with many features such as integrated voice mail and IVR.

Thank you for the information, we have finally cracked it and got the line group selection working as we want it to.

We fit quite a few of these switches in schools and small businesses and the users are quite happy with them as they are easy to use, they only gripe we have is that the system phones are four wire circuits and makes it interesting when connecting them to cat 5 cabling systems but it's not insurmountable.

Will have to look at using the PC Pro tool on the laptop, do you install the communication card into every system that you install or do you take a card out with you?

 
Well done, next time when you do it using PC Pro you will see how mch easier it is.
Well the extensions are hybrid (analogue or digital use for all) so are always going to be a 4-wire circuit, onto patchpanel blues/greens and away on the cat-5.

Yes we install the EXIFU comms/apps card into every system we install but we also keep a card in the vans for the odd occasion when there is no card fitted. Usually you will find them fitted though as they are cheap, was an NEC recommendation to equip and you can LAN it up to the network for fast remote access + customer admin access using user pro from web browser.
 
Will have to look at putting the EXIFU card in, I don't think we have in the past to keep the costs down for the customer.

Have always programmed from a system phone, takes time but can be done.
