NEC SV9100 in-mail static issue after firmware update 1

I purchased an SV9100 used, system setup and working, I had an issue where calls would randomly drop both externally and internally. From what I saw on a forum post was suggested to update the software. Was originally on 2.0X.

Upgraded the software to 9.0X and line dropping issue seems to be fixed. However, now there is lots of static on in-mail. When calling in and getting anyone voicemail there is lots of static, when listening to left messages there is lots of static.

Any ideas what's causing this? Thank you.
 
I would say do the side tone adjustment. I will copy and paste the instructions. It is intended to adjust issues on POTS lines. It may fix it...

Side Tone Auto Setup for Analog Trunks


Program 90-68-01 performs a series of tests on the selected lines and auto adjusts it to the line's levels.
To do this you must do the following from a telephone:
• Enter system programming by pressing Speaker, then dialing #, *, #, *.
• Password is 12345678, then press the Transfer Key. Next enter 9068 to go to program 90-68-01, then press select.
• At the "Adjustment Start _ " Prompt enter the line number of your first analog trunk, then press Transfer.
• The system will then run a series of tests on that line. Allow the tests to complete. If the line is not an analog line or if the line currently does not have dial tone, you will be returned with "Error".
• Once the tests are complete, you will be presented with "Copy? (1 if Yes)" if you wish to copy the new settings the system has automatically set for this line to your other lines, enter a 1 and then press Transfer. If not, simply press Transfer, then the Answer key several times to back up to a blinking curser on the display and then press the Speaker key to exit.
• It is recommended to run this on each line individually in place of copying the settings since it is possible for each analog lines to have different physical characteristics.
Once the test/tests have been completed the Trunk Blade MUST be reset for the changes to take place.
This procedure should be run in the following cases:
• Upon new install of a SV8100 / SV9100, once the system is installed onsite with the analog lines installed.
• Anytime the system is moved to a new site, once the lines are re-installed at the new location.
• Anytime the line source changes such as changing over to a new provider.
• Anytime an additional line is added.
• This only applies to analog lines.
Running these procedures often resolves many issues such as echo, poor Speakerphone quality when on outside lines and DTMF reception issues related to an Auto Attendant.

Conditions:
• All phones and trunks must be idle in order to perform the Side Tone Auto Setup test. If any phone or trunk is in use, "Busy" will be displayed when trying to run 90-68-01.
• All phones will become unresponsive while the Side Tone Auto Setup tests are running.

Quick question, after running a test on line one. DO you need to exit programming completely and go back in to do the second line? Or can you just go back to 90-68-01 after the completed test and run the second line there?

Also for resetting the trunk blade, just a full system shutdown will suffice?

Also want to clarify further. If calling in and line is answered everything sounds fine. Only when getting auto-attendant do you get the static, also if checking voicemail internally you can hear static from auto-attendant. Static also present in voice messages.

I made a quick recording of line tone and then selecting voicemail to hear the attendant. It sounds worse in person than in the recording.

This sounds more like an InMail issue than a trunk issue. Do you have the same static on a message left internally with no trunk call?
You might try shutting down and re-seating the InMail chip. Or even using the utility and re-initializing the chip. Clear all messages first and copy main greetings to a .wav file. It all will be lost.
 
Just left a voice message internally and static isn't present, message is super clear.
 
Problem is still present, running the side tone adjustment now. Will update when its complete.

Yesterday I called vmsg from an internal extension and left a message on another extension. That message was clear. But still if calling from an outside line messages are noisy. That and the auto attendant is super noisy whether calling internally or externally.
 
Side tone adjustment completed, still the same. Pulled the cpu blade and reinserted, also no difference.

Any other ideas?
 
What is your hardware configuration wrt the CO blades? 4 ports, 4 + 4? Is it all CO lines? Do you have a spare CO blade (not the CO daughterboard, but the main blade).
Do you have any SLT ports? If so, loop a SLT back to a CO and test it without Telco.
Do you have any vacant slots? If so, try moving the CO blade to a different slot.
Your issue is a bit unusual, but it is a used system.
Also try power down and reseat the VM daughterboard on the CPU.
 
I wanted to update this thread, everything is in the same state as the last post. I don't remember if I had tried the CO card in another slot I will have to try that again.

4+4 for the trunk card
16DLCA and 8DLCA
4LCF card, are those SLT ports, not familiar with that procedure you suggested.

CPU card doesn't have an in-mail daughtercard, only the SD card.

I was going through my notes for any notable differences, the system did come from Australia. The first firmware 2.0 had an issue where it would randomly from internal and external calls. 4.0 software fixed that issue and voicemail was super clean and crisp but all other calls sounded like crap. 9.0 software fixed the call sound issue but that's when the voicemail then sounded like crap. I was thinking of trying the new a10.00.50 software before troubleshooting further but the only one I can find is the EU version. Will that work? I don't have an NEC dealer and honestly can't afford that at the moment so I really want to try and fix this one on my own with your guy's help of course. Anywhere to get the US software aside from NEC, if not will the EU software work?

I would check your wiring on your trunk card and if possible swap ports. Uninstall the card and remove it from card list in webpro logout and insert the card back in so it initializes.
 
I was able to come across the US version of a10.00.50 software version and upgraded this morning. To my surprise, the voicemails are now coming in clear. The only portion that still has the noise issue is the recording for the voicemails and the actual auto-attendant. Reintinalized the trunk card but everything sounds the same.

For instance, when pressing the VMsg key on a handset, the auto-attendant voice is very broken and noisy. The recording for the voicemail sounds the same, although when you press 2 for Spanish it is even worse.

I will get a recording so you guys can actually hear what it sounds like. Regular calls all sound perfect, extension to extension sounds perfect. On previous firmware, I remember clearly that it didn't sound like this but had caused other issues thus the continued upgrades. Maybe a setting that was set with the original AU settings that are incompatible with the US firmware.

Going to run a blank US config against my current and see if anything sticks out, the only problem is I really don't have much expertise here, if someone wanted to look at the 2 files side by side that would be cool [tongue] Again thank you for the help.
 
the system did come from Australia....I think you may be up against an aLAW vs. uLAW issue. The US systems and software use uLAW. I'm not sure about Australia, they may use aLAW. In MB 10-02-01 you can specify the country code. It may have some bearing on your issue. The default in the US is 1. I cannot find any switch settings or programming that specifically sets aLAW or uLAW other than location setting. I believe it also adjusts tones that are location specific.
There is a setting in 84-19-03 for A-law/u law. It is for SIP extension codecs.
