NEC SC8500PBX "Station/Trunk is not assigned yet" - help a sysadmin

We had our phone guy leave and I got thrown into supporting the phone systems (sysadmin by day) until we get a new guy. We have a support contact with a NEC vendor - but I want to try to do as much as I can on my own (and maybe learn a thing or two). Feel free to respond with any help docs etc that might help be learn. This current issue is perplexing me though...

Environment:
NEC SC8500PBX, Dterm Series i 2-Button Phone

Problem:
x5792 has no keys assigned (AKYD) and cannot put anyone on hold. The number can call and receive no problem. When I go to set the keys I get the error: AKYD.SET 01:0201 Station/Trunk is not assigned yet.

Additional details:
ASDT (Assign Station) is set, if I try to delete (to reset) I get the following error: Command Error. ASDT.DEL 01:2A6, Call pick-up group exists. I'm guessing on this part: DSTN (Display Station Data) reports back that is is part of 8 CNT (call groups?), if I click CPG I see 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 listed with various stations of the same department.

Solution:
I am reluctant to try this, but I am tempted to remove it from all call groups, delete the station assignment, and reassign it and add it back to the groups after I assign the keys. Any help would be appreciated.

When you run DSTN what is in the TEC field?

And what model of phone are you using that doesn't have a hold button?

I should have been clearer - the user can click the hold button but never take it off hold (indefinitely leaving them on hold).

TEC: 12 : Dterm

Thanks!

error: AKYD.SET 01:0201 Station/Trunk is not assigned yet. The system does not recognize that extension as existing. Are you sure that your are requesting data on the primary (physical) extension number and not a virtual extension appearance?
Try, DSTN, DCON.
As for deleting a station, see

That makes sense.

By default the "My Line" is on button 16. The user obviously can't press button 16 to retrieve the call.

ACPG will allow you to remove it from a PU Group.

I'm kinda' puzzled as to why you can't run AKYD on it.

It can't be a tenant (TN) issue since you put the correct TN in when you ran ASDT.

I would go ahead and delete it and re-build it. Hopefully no one goofed up the numbering plan so it's no longer "allowed" to be a station. That's not too tough to fix though.

Before deleting it, I would check the number by ringing another station and then doing a DCON on that other extension.
