Hi, I have a question in regards to a NEC VoIP phone system and strange issue. This is for a particular customer and I have no direct experience with NEC VoIP.

Every day at the same time all of the NEC IP Phones reboot at two of the remote sites.

Many tests were done such as removing all PC/Servers from the network leaving ONLY the IP phones on the network. Also confirmed that nothing scheduled on the DATA side is occurring.

Any ideas and thoughts on what could be happening here in terms of the NEC for troubleshooting?

Thank you

Are you sure there is no carrier issue, like a daily diagnostic being run.

No carrier issues that we know of. The Data network is fine with no latency or congestion issues. When the phones restart everyday at the same time, the Data network continues to function without any drops.

When a IP phone was setup at the main office for that profile at the remote site it would still restart at the same time every morning.

Does the NEC do any type of scheduled routine?

What kind of communication traffic usually occurs between the NEC IP Phone and the phone system?

Again, I have no direct experience with NEC. My IPT experience is heavily on the Cisco side, so I don't know if the same concepts and features applies with NEC.

Thank you!

What type of NEC systems are at these sites? That might help to try to determine the issue. In the key systems there is a refresh timer that will reset the system after 4 hours of no user activity. They can be programmed to turn this off.

Ok, I didn't know that. Here is the NEC phone system they are using:

Thank you!

I have the same problem on a NEC IPK II with IP phones. The IPK does have a refresh timer but I have not seen a refresh timer on the IPKII.

How the remote sites connected? Via a VPN? Does the VPN have an idle timeout? Try a continuous ping on one of the pcs and see if the morning they still rebooted.
