NEC Elite 64 VM Doesnt always work

Hello all,

My wife's company has an elite 64 system with the 4port voicemail card installed. It seams that the VM works when it wants to. Most of the time it doesnt answer work and sometimes after a reset it works for a day or so and then stops again.

I would appreciate any input on this. I have worked with the IPS2000, but this had the stand alone voice mail server (ad-40 I think).

I am pretty sure that I have a copy of coession somewhere.

On a seperate note, does anyone know where I can borrow a manual for this system?

What type of voicemail is it? If you look inside the cabinet, it should tell you on the card either FMS or VMS or VMP and if you look on the hard drive/flash card it will tell you the version of it. Usually starts with Q then 5 digits. There has been some issues with voicemail card locking up and depending on the version\type of card, there is usually a fix for it (unless it's the hard drive that is dying).Do you have CoSession software to log into the voicemail?

My wife pulled the card out of the system.

It is a FMS 4 and it has a 64 Compact Flash Hd Drive on it. It says that is is software version 6.65 Q25931A. I hope this helps.

Is this a standard Compact Flash Card. Can I purchase a larger card and copy the files from one to another using a CF card reader/ writer?

Follow up question:

We wanted to replace the Sandisk 64 Meg card with a new one. Apparently to do this we need an "Activiation Code". When we called the vendor that sold us the system they told us that they would not give us the code, as the code belongs to them and not us.

I find this a little disconcerting, as I feel it should be ours. When I was the Admin on a IPS2000 with the AD-40 VM system, there was a Dongle on the back of the PC.

When we called NEC directly, all they would do is reccomend us to a local vendor.

Any help would be appreciated.

Gregg, I have noticing your plight with this. Unfortunately you do need the activation code. The only way to get one is through a certified NEC dealer.

If this were my VM I would look into an upgrade (would mean a new flash and a BIOS chip) or a new VM. The VMP voice mails are much better than the old FMS product and I feel that they are more reliable than the Hard drive models.

I understand that I need to get the code from an NEC dealer. My question is: If a dealer sells a system with the voice mail system in it and uses the activation code to activate it, who's code is it?

Is the dealer being dishonest and using the same code for multiple people?

If I purchase a PC with an operating system on it, I get the registration key, whats the difference?

No the code cannot be used in another system. It is exclusive to the voice mail only (if you do an F5 at the banner screen you will see Q level and the serial number, this info is needed to get the code) . A dealer HAS to order a code from NEC. NEC does not even send the activation code. You must call NEC customer service to receive the code verbally. NEC does this to thwart the dishonest folks out there. It seems to work.

Shop around. I'll bet this vm gets the upgrade treatment. If the FMS is that whacked then I would see if someone will get this thing changed to a VMP. BTW how many vm boxes are on this thing? I can get you documentation on this if you still need it.

We have 6 department VM boxes plus 8 employess boxes set up.
 
I have seen some Q level upgrades to fix some troubles but in two instances that I have been involved in the vm has crashed after running for 4-6 months. If this company is reliant on the vm then they should look at replacing the thing.
