Greetings all,

I am new to the TEK-TIPS and this forum.

I have a NEC ELECTRA 48 system with 11 extensions that I have just installed as a favor for a biz owner. Where do I start as far as re-programming the system and getting things back to default?

The system expects 5 CO lines (there are now only 4)
The voice mail is inactive
The caller ID does not function

Am I in over my head? I have done 100s of Broadband, Microwave, and Satcom installs. I am familar with the concepts, I just need to get the specifics for this system.

Can the unit be interfaced via laptop and hyper-terminal? If so, what are the settings? If not, is there a software package available somewhere for purchase that will do the trick?

Can it be programmed via a telephone extensions?

Can someone recommend a programming book? Is it available as a PDF download? Is there a fee for the book?

Thanks in advance!

Cakes!

Yes your in over your head lol, NEC is one of the hardest to program in my opinion (via set).
For laptop you need S.A.T. software and an MIFM card installed in the KSU (expensive).
You can also program from a set that is on the first 2 ports of the KSU.
I suggest contacting your nearest NEC dealer and purchase a programming manual from them.

Yep,
Sorry cakes but a knowledgeable tech that will sell you a manual and allow you to peek over the shoulder and ask as many questions as required is exactly what I would do.
They are not hard to program but the inside joke on NEC is it stands for "Never Enough Confusion"
Write back if you get that far.
Hope this helps.

Hey Cakes the first thing you need is a manual. If you can understand telephone the elite is not that difficult to learn. But it is what you are used to working on. After you get a manual then post some more questions and people will help you. Their is two manuels that you need. Features and Specs manuel and the program
manuel.

Hello,

I hear that the manuel for the NEC Electra 8/24 is availible in a PDF format. If anyone knows where I can find these manuels I would be very thankfull.

I have also installed a NEC Electra 48 with a voicemail Elite in slot 07 for a friend that wanted to reuse it from another site ( I mostly work on Avaya )

I worked on them awhile ago but can get around logging into x100 or x101 ...also using cosession for the voicemail

*my question is this we have ports 01-08 (x100-107) on the first 8 pairs ...w/blue to rd/grn pairs

(4 port co card in slot 02) pairs 9-12 for co # 1 - #4
rd/brn to black/orange pairs

8 port Digital card in slot 03 pairs pairs 16-24
yellow/orange to v-/brn pairs

since we are adding more co trunks I programmed slot 04
for a 4 port co card ...card is back ordered ....I will
install it at a later date ...can the co card be installed
while the power is on I know if you do anything with the voicemail card you make busy with the dip switch on vm card and wait 45 - 60 seconds before pulling card ...I programmed all the phones for lines 1-8 and dit day to ring voicemail ....

will trunks 5-8 fall on the second amp pairs 1-4 being w/blue to w/brn pairs

is there a cheat sheet for the color code depending on what card you install in what slot ???I looked through a Manual
on cd and found nothing

its a pretty nice little system for the small business
world and the customer has some other bigger NEC systems
through out the country ....like I said we mostly deal
in Avaya systems but did this for a favor for them

Thanks for any and all posts
