Hello Yall,
One of our clients is using an NEC 2000IPS PBX. We have a Message on Hold Player attached to this PBX through the MoH port. Here is the issue we are having:

1- When placed on hold, we can hear the "voice" portion of the Message crystal clear
2- However; the "Music" portion of the message plays distorted and staticy

We tried different sample and bit rates, but it is always the same. The client is using AT&T IP Flex service. Does anyone know what the solution is to this problem?

Thank you for your tips in advance.

Did a bit of searching and came across a thread where a poster said he had experimented and the only reasonable results he got were with solo woodwind pieces, he suggested alto sax or flute! May be worth a try if the customer is willing to use it.

The audio presented o the phone system is as audio via the external input, not streamed as a digital format.

as such the format of the file will have to be in whatever format the external device supports, changing it will probably make it not work.
Changing the type of music may however , if the music is more speech like it may work better , perhaps reducing the frequencies to be more speech like ( 50 up to 4000 Hz)

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Billz66,

Agreed on the file format but I thought that if it made it through the encoder and still sounded ok it may work for the system. The problem is not so much the frequency range as the change patterns. g729 uses a kind of lookup table to predict the changes that voice normally goes through but music doesn't follow those patterns so the lookup table becomes useless.

The idea about woodwind instruments intrigues me tough, a simple clear sound following a slow changing theme seems to me to have the best chance.
