I have the NEC Dterm Series E phones, and I need to move a phone from one room to another and keep the same extension number and settings on that phone. I would appreciate the commands that would allow me to do this.

Thank you.

Just locate the voice drop in the new location at the switch and move your cross connect wires from the lens number of the old drop to the new one.You may want to check the ID from the old local and program the new local with the right info.

Wayne, thank you for the tip. Since I'm not that confident when it comes to playing with the wires, I was hoping there was a command to program the phone/station to retain its extension, similar to what you can do with the Nortel system.

Can't be done this way. you can swap extension numbers in software after you have moved the phone but why move the phone just swap labels.

If you have matworx there is a swap extensions option in the stations drop down menu but most people don't use it for various reasons.

I personally have never had problems just swapping the numbers in Cmd 10 (if you know how to get into MOC mode). The trick being to not delete an extension simply put a dummy number on the first to free up the number then put this number where you want it which will then free up that number to go where you want it and so on till you finally take out the dummy number and the shuffle is complete.

This however would probably horrify some of the posters here. Like I say I have never had problems, doesn't mean they can't occur. The one problem from your point of view with this is that the key data (except for the prime) will not move with the extension so unless you want to then get into reconfiguring the keys forget it. Same applies for any groups (pickup, hunt or ucd), restrictions, CLI, name the list goes on.

I am quite adept at these wholesale extension software swaps as we have a customer who insists it is done this way and have had up to 20 to do on one request alone. Guess what systems the customers rep used to work on, Nortel & Alcatel!

This is a system feature called "Station Relocation" and is available in the NEAX 2000 IPS.
You go to the destination station, dial the Station relocation access code followed by the extension you wish that station to swap with. The Display will go out and then come back up seconds later as the swap station you entered. All that is left is for you to swap the labels/Desi strips if necessary.

Pave, is the station relocation feature available in the NEAX 2000 IVS? If so, what would be the access code and syntax? Thank you.

Set relocation is not adviseable with in an IVS, it can cause data coruption. Use the tried and true "Jumper swap" method in an IVS if you like your weekends free.

Sorry Surfpipe Set Relocation is a feature released with the NEAX2000 IPS. Many years after the IVS. As you have an IVS your best bet is a cheap punch tool, jumper cable, some nail polish remover, and a fine point sharpee.
The punch tool to reconnect the jumper, the nailpolish remover to clean off the current ID on the block, and the sharpee to remark the block with the new number.
A good installer would have marked these on the inital install. If not it would be worth the time to have your vendor spend the 10 to 20 minutes marking it for you and then you will be set.
You really only need the stations marked on the PBX side as these should not change. Only their destination connection to the house cabling.
Using the tool is very very simple. It has to be because I used to use one all the time.
You can get the punch tool and jumper wire from Home Depot.
Now if you don't want to do this you could always upgrade to an IPS system by simply changing out the Processor in your system and get the Set Relocation Feature as well as all the latest that is available in IP Telephony and countless other features added since the IVS. All the time retaining your existing cabinet, line cards, and telephones.

Thank you all for your responses and valuable input. I finally just switched the cross connect wires, which did the trick. Back to the old keep it simple stupid!
