My house sits near the highway.

Are both of those sentences correct and mean the same thing?
 
convenient to" a UK construct: no idea. I'm in the U.S.

When used in a positional sense I (in the UK) would use 'convenient for'. Even then I would be guilty of Estate Agent (Realtor) terminology.
