Good day.

I have an individual who gets an NDR when he replies to the email of a sender from whom he routinely receives mail. In the past, if he constructed a new email in response to the original message and sent it, the original sender received the message (puzzling).

This is extremely annoying. Previously, I began researching this issue, but had to abandon it because of the simple workaround of contructing a new message.

Now the user explains that he receives NDRs whether he responds via a reply or with a newly constructed message.

Please advise. Thank you.

The NDR says, "The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address". <#5.1.1>

Getting MX record for w3ins.com (from local DNS server, may be cached)... Got it!

Next, got a successful connect good response.

Try having a look in your user's contacts folder.

If he has two or more entries for person who he is having trouble mailing, check if they have the same addresses, if they dont, delete the incorrect one(s). (search for Christian name as well as Surname to make sure you get all variants)

Alternatively, delete all contact entries for the problem recipient, and then try mailing them

Are you sure the recipient's email account is not full? That would cause NDRs.

irigoyena,

Interestingly, I don't know. The person that I support has inherited an issue previously owned by an individual who retired.

The problem manifested itself after a change in the domain name of the sender. For example, if mail was received in our organization from read, and a reply was constructed from the original correspondence and sent, an NDR was inevitable.

Conversely, if a new message was sent, no problems.

Puzzling?

Does the reply to address in the original email have the correct domain name? The sender may have changed their address but neglected to change their "reply to" address.

Also, clear the nickname cache of all email addresses for the person that you're having problems sending to. It could be that the cache still has the old domain name.

Cheers.

Yeah my bet would be that since new messages and replies are both getting NDRs but you got a successful connection through your mail test (as previously stated) then my best bet would be that the account is either disabled, full, or near its limit in which case it would not receive any more emails and you would get an NDR. So there is no way you can contact the recipient to see if the mailbox is even being managed?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Iggy

The NDR states that the account does not exist.

The outlook client has to be sending to an incorrect address.

Thank you all for this valuable input! One of the things mentioned is the reply to address by cmeagan656. I'll need to check this aspect of the issue along with the caching of the nickname.

Another issue is the possibility of limits on the mailbox suggested by irigoyena.

Let us know how it goes

I hope you find this post helpful.
