Dear all,

I have updated my Networker to the 7.2 version.

Now i cannot restore data on my old files with NDMP.

I always have the following error message :

"NDMP retrieval: child failed with status of 5"

I am using a "nas" with ndmp version 4. And the dataontap is 6.5.3P4 on the filer.

Moreover, since i have updated the version of networker, when i try to backup my filer with Ndmp, it's like a look with an error message afterwards...

Please could you help me for the restore problem?

Regards

This is a know problem. You should contact Legato and refer them to LGTpa72402. There is a hotfix available.

Hi,

605 is right for the patch and also according to EMC/Legato, for the message :

Error: 'NDMP retrieval: child failed with status of 5'

You can recover datas by :

Workaround Solution (recover only): Set the client setup parameter 'NDMP: no' for all client instances except the one which is to be used for recover. This causes a successful recover operation.

Thanks,
Best regards,

Marc

NB: The 7.2 version implements new features for NDMP especially the new technology DSA that allow to put NDMP datas and regular datas on the same tape.

Dears,

Hard to tell. There was an issue with 6.0.x. The workaround was to turn verification off (-v off).

See whether this helps. For further steps you might need to contact Legato.

Hi,

According to EMC/Legato, you have :

Error: 'NDMP Service Log: RESTORE: Could not initialize media.'
Error: 'NDMP Service Log: RESTORE: RESTORE IS ABORTED'
Error: 'Data server halted: Dump aborted'
Error: 'NDMP data server has an internal error.'
Error: 'Error during File NDMP Extraction.'

It'a a known problem, contact Legato for the patch
LGTpa59409 which provides a set of binaries to automatically recover the data, even with the corrupted filemarks.

Thanks,
Best regards,

Marc

Dear 605,

Could you tell me how to turn verification off? Sorry but i am not an expert of Networker :)

Dear marc0146,

Thanks for your answer, im waiting for this hotfix.
if you know anything else which can Help me to solve this problem, i will be happy with this.

Thanks to all again

I did already: -v off (see above)

Do not forget that this only works from the command line.

More details are available from the manpages (command line utilities)

Dear all,

Our reseller ( Stordata ) is not abble to give us the correct patch still 3 weeks!!!!

Is there someone abble to give it to me to solve my restore problem?

Could this be because we update our dataontap on our NAS filer a few month ago?

Legato, netapp, stordata, no one is abble to give us a solution......

Thanks for your help..i am desesperate.. :-((((

Why not backup over lan and abandon NDMP until a fix is found, if its a large amt of data that could be a issue, hoeverlong it takes you to backup, even if it take a week to backup, atleat you have a recoverable data. ( May only be applicable to Windows NAS)Where a client can be installed.
Also meanwhile you might be able to mount the drive on some server and use Snapimage module.
Hove you talked to Netapp to see if they can help ?

Of course i can do like this.

Firstabble, this is not a windows nas
Secondly, it works with new backup ( since a month ). it doesn't work with archive only, and that's what we need....

Have you already tryed Networker 7.2.1 version ?
You can download it from legato web.

We already have the 7.2.1 version...

Were you ever able to use Archive funtion correctly with your NAS ? is this supported in Legato ?
There may be other archival software better suited for what you are trying to acomplish.

Try this workaround:
Set the client setup parameter 'NDMP: no' for all client instances except the one which is to be used for recover. This causes a successful recover operation.
I mean there is a patch from legato support.
Bye.
