I'm kinda surprised this topic hasn't sprung up yet (but I wouldn't be surprised if it has and I missed it...): NCR is buying Radiant for $1.2B USD. I'm not going to bother posting links, because all the stories are the same bit of boilerplate, just Google NCR with Radiant and you'll see what I mean.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery?

I was sorta surprised no one mentioned it either, but I'm not really not well versed enough on either company to comment on what possible outcome might be.

Radiant buying Ibertech, in retrospect, seemed like it was a good thing for dealers profitability and company growth, but I'm really not sure it was the best thing for the Aloha end user.

Of course, they led of with the typically corporate take-over/buy out line of crap... "we're going to keep everything separate right now". But that always seems to be what they say to keep affected parties from panicking.

One of the managing partners at my restaurants has a name for NCR: Needs Constant Repair. I also find NCR to be just as proprietary with their support info as Radiant is. I don't know what this will mean for radiant terminals but I have not heard a lot of glowing praise for Radiant terminal longevity either.

@eburks: Sounds like MICROS = Machines In Constant Repair Or Service... lol

I've been working with aloha since they were a private company, I remember when Radiant bought them, the working relationship with them changed. I'm interested to see what happens with NCR purchasing them. My days date back to 4.25 when aloha was in two separate parts, aloha maitenance and aloha control!!!

@msk997 me too, that was some time ago.

(Robinson Cano just hit a grand slam!)

anyways..
I just hope they change whoever's in charge of support with someone who actually cares about customers. Sometimes I think they cant get worse, but you never know.

hardware is hardware, aloha is aloha, but support can vary from pitiful to supreme, and we all know where Radiant falls on this scale.

Let's hope NCRadiant knows this, but i doubt it. they want the SaaS money, that's probably all they care about.
