I just took over an office with a previously setup NBX 100 system and need to reconfigure it.

I have connected to the box with a serial to ethernet cable to a laptop but get a network cable not connected message. Is this the proper way to connect to the box?

Do I have to use serial to serial cable?

All user configuration on an NBX system occurrs through the web interface.

The box is not on the network, it is connected to a regular phone line. How can I get into it through the web interface?

You need to plug a 9 pin serial cable into the Com1 of the unit. Once you have done that open hyperteminal and connect using 9600,8,none. Once connected hit enter a few times to make sure your prompt is responding. then type nbxIpConfig and hit enter. You can set the:
Hostname
internet address
Subnet Mask
Gateway Inet

after you set those confirm the changes and plug a network cable into the 10BT uplink port. after you have it connected to the network. You should be good to go to access it via web GUI.
