Hi,

I have inherited a Netbackup 6.5.3 installation running on Solaris x86. The media servers are surprisingly flaky and since I am far more comfortable with Windows, I'm thinking of gradually rebuilding them with Win 2K8.

Are there any pitfalls to having a Solaris master server and Windows media servers? My particular concern is to keep Netbackup working with our AIX client servers.

FileSaver, no pitfalls. Should work fine. Infact I have a Unix Master and a Windows Media server and it works perfectly.

Thanks, that is the exact situation I want to implement! The Solaris master server seems to be in great health and just the media serves need an overhaul. The manuals and general info on the web don't really detail how well that scenario works, just that its possible. getting some real-world feedback boosts my confidence to take a media server down for a few days.

FileSaver, no worries. Just remember. If that media server is in use and you have other backups running. Its a good idea to change policies to use another storage unit (or deactive them) and to deactivate the media server:
vmoprcmd -deactive_host -h <device_host>
