We are currently running NB4.5 on Solaris8. I have just received service pack6. Can I install it just like that or do I have to load sp1,sp2,sp3,sp4,sp5 first of all?

Do you mean Maintenance Pack 6 or Feature Pack 6?

Either way it's cumulative. You can go straight to 6 if you want to.

Please make sure you check the readme thoroughly and a have verified catalogue backup before you run the upgrade.

Tim

I myself have not seen if its either Maintenance or Feature, I was told by a fellow worker about it.

But as long as I have a verified backup of the Catalog, I should be able to install it straight onto the system?

I would suggest you read the Veritas support site for details of the FP6/MB6 upgrades. There is a post FP6/MB6 patch that should also be installed. And again you should really read up on this before doing it. We just upgraded FP3 to FP6 on one of our Netbackup 4.5 clusters and it wasn't plain sailing at all. And ideally, all your Media Servers should also be updated to the same release too. (But do the Master server first...)

Can I ask how long you've been running 4.5 with no patches?

Tim

We have been running with no patches for at least 6 months and as of yet we have had no problems at all really.

Personally - STAY AWAY from FP6/MP6 - Far too many issues. Wait for 5.0 MP1/SP1 before any more upgrades.

i believe you have to make a decision whether to go down the FeaturePack route or the MP route, and not be able to divert between later on.

As for FP6, it went ok for us, and we also had to add the post FP6 fix, due to bpsched core-dumping all over the shop.

PGPhantom, cheers for that comment about FP6 :)

(we went 4.5 in March, along with FP6. Still monitor everything religiously, reluctantly moved up from 3.4 due to support ceasing. RMAN Restores were kaputt for 6weeks, but nothing to do with FP6, problems due to Veritarse Support doing the upgrade instead of us inhouse boohoo).
