I have a customer who is somehow still running Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition version 7.60.926. Apparently, a long time ago when that product reached end of life/end of support, the customer didn't get the notification on it, and was still able to get viable antivirus definitions until about a week ago.

Now, when live update (or the intelligent updater download from the SARC site), it appears that the defs download, but the virus definitions date is blank. Does anyone have any insight into where the actual definitions are being updated, as in I could check in the registry to determine this?

In the meantime, I am working on getting the customer to get a current product from Symantec, but it may take a week or so to get approval on the purchase. My goal is Symantec Endpoint Small Business as their replacement.

Happily, at least their servers have SAV 10.1, so it's only several dozen workstations that are at risk...YIKES!

Any advice appreciated.

I'm seeing the same issue with SAV CE 8.00.9374, although if you go into the GUI, under File choosing Virus List, you will see the current DEFS date that are hopefully enabled.

Anyone have a confirmation on the reason behind this from Symantec? We had current contracts just never got around to upgrading because it worked just fine. Now we've discovered the same thing so I guess we'll be forced to upgrade to an new version as well. I would just like to see something from Symantec on the issue

I had a call with Symantec the other day about something else and mentioned this problem to the tech. Because 7.6 is a non-supported version, he wasn't willing to acknowledge the product existed, and quickly shifted into sales mode.

Like JCA74 says, you can assure yourself that you have current virus defs by checking the date under FILE and choosing VIRUS LIST.

Still, one wonders: how long viable updates will be available to these older products and what happened to make that def date go blank?

Hi, I'm facing the same problem though I run SAV 10.0.1.5000. I updated the virus definitions yesterday but today, no definitions are being displayed. Was this issue ever resolved?

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

Andy, if you're still covered under a support contract, I'd certainly give them a call to ask about a resolution. I'd just love to know what happened to kill that def date on these versions.

I think it is a global thing. I had two customers using 7.6 and the samething happened to both of them at the same time. Either symantec did this on purpose or there is a bug in the updates.

Even if the defs were working I would get off 7.6.

Joepc, apparently this is happening even to users with more current versions. Certainly appears to be a bug in the update.

I have seen this more than once. In most case it helps when all I delete all temporary files and directories and restart the SAV client.
