I have windows 2000 and Norton System Works which includes Norton Antivirus 2003.

I am using Outlook Express 6.0 I have set the option to scan both incoming and outgoing email.

I don't have any mail in my Outbox or Sent Mail folder.

But Norton Antivirus is repeatedly showing "Scanning message 1 of 1" as if it is trying to send some mail. This dialog box when working correctly pops up once at a time. However, it is now popping up about 7 or 8 times at one instance. It is trying to send email to strange addresses.

There are no addresses in my address book.

I am getting errors like

Error: &quot;Your email message to <email address of recipient> with the subject <email subject> was unable to be sent because the connection to your mail server was interrupted...&quot; (1003,9)

Error: &quot;Your email message was unable to be sent because your mail server rejected the recipient.&quot; (1003,10)

The problem is I am not able to control it. It is all happening automatically. I performed a thorough scan and found 20 viruses which I have all removed.

But the problem still persists.

On removing the option, scan outgoing mail from NAV, obviously this problem goes away. but I guess that is not the solution. And I need to scan all outgoing mails.

Solutions given in the Norton site assumes that I am actually trying to send some email. But that is not the case. I am not trying to send any mail and all this is happening automatically.

Can anyone help ?

URGENT !!

Sounds like you are still infected with something. Either that mail maybe quarintine

Yes, do one last update for Norton, boot to safe mode. Make sure there are no exclusions set under Options>Manual Scan. Do a full scan in safe mode.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

I understand that there is some virus still existing somewhere.

There are no exclusions under Manual scan. So I guess everything is being scanned even inside zipped files.

I have not scanned under SAFE MODE. Does that make a difference ?

I have the latest NAV updates.

There are no mails in sent mail folder or outbox folder. No quarantined items too.

Can anyone help please ?

Regards,
Arijit

Sometimes the scanner cannot clean or quarantine certain files, as they are in use, safe mode bypasses this.
