Hi Geeks,

Its a simple ques?, but I don't know the answer. Why do we need a native VLAN on a trunk other than specifying the port as Trunk mode.

Yes, however most vendors have one on as default.

The native VLAN is very important as it contains the spanning tree traffic among other things.
 
All inter switch and router management communications happen across the native VLAN.

1) Spanning Tree
2) Router management Traffic

ALL trunking info (vlan tagging, pruning, VTP, etc.). Not just STP and for management---vlans simply cannot span multiple switches without a trunk!
