native.log reports - Failed to open log ... itself - huh?

We use WAS 4.02, IHS 1.3.19.2 (with patch) on AIX 4.3.3

We just performed a clean install of WebSphere so that all our servers were identical. And now on one we are noticing the following in the native.log:

[Tue Jan 14 11:45:57 2003] 0000c02e 00000001 - ERROR: ws_common: websphereUpdateConfig: Failed to open log: /usr/local/WebSphere/AppServer/logs/native.log

How can it "fail" to open itself, or better yet, report that it can't open itself in the log that it can't open?

I can't find any info about this on the IBM site, does anyone here have any ideas? Einstein47

I too thought of that (permissions on the log file), but it has the same permissions as the same log on my other servers. Einstein47
