Does anyone share his/her expertises how to configure NAT on Windows2000 Adv server?

I followed up the wizard to set up NAT from routing and remote access console, the NAT server can access to Internet, but the client doesn't.

Here are the configuration I did on NAT server.

1. assign 192.168.0.10 private address to NAT server.
2. Set up DNS & DHCP on NAT server
3. On DHCP scope options:
Point DNS server to 192.168.0.10 NAT server address

Run ipconfig /renew from client PCs ( Windows 2000 professional ), DHCP service is working fine.

Please give me a clear picture how to set it up?

Thanks,
Allan

Hi Peter and Coolclark,

Coolclark has responded to my Oct 16 request with:

"Make sure you aren't attempting any replication from your primary dns."

And I asked him:

"How do I check and correct replication from the primary DNS?"

Now, do you have any other clue for this problem?

I know some of these things may seem obvious to you, but I need to fix this problem.

Thank you in advance,

Pierre Forget

Hey pierre,

I just thought of something that might help narrow down the problem. Turn on IP filtering on your NAT server and turn on ports as they are needed like TCP 80 for web access. Maybe there is a device on your network sendig out random data. Check out this article, Q254018, which explains how to set up the more common ports.

Hi,

Finally managed to make it work. The NAT now connects only when needed, instead of every 5 minutes.

IP filtering on NAT (Q254018) did half of the job. I configured it to let pass only the traffic I wanted. The rest was done with the dialup on demand filter, which I configure exactly the contrary: let pass everything except what I didn't want.

At the same time, I got rid of a hacker who got on the system.

He has managed to change the event viewer, so that if I click on properties on any of the events, I get the message: there is nothing to display (instead of the normal description). Did you ever see that before?

Thank you for the advice,

Pierre Forget
