We are new to Narrowcast, and I'm having problems getting my services to run automatically on days (Monday - Friday) when our database backup is done. I have batch scripts to bring the NCS services down before the database goes down then batch scripts to bring the NCS services back up after the database is up again; however, it still doesn't help. We have to manually "run immediately" the services Monday through Friday. The backup we use is on an Oracle database and is a mirror system BCV split through EMC. Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks!

What kind of schedule are you using for your services? When is your backup done? Seems odd that you can't get your services to execute once your Narrowcast service is brought back up. Unless you are doing your backup within the time frame that a service is supposed to execute. Have you tried using a control table to make the servers more event based? This will allow you to have better control over when your services get executed.

The backup is done at 10 pm and takes like 10 minutes. My services come down at 9:30 pm and back up at 11 pm. We aren't using a control table yet since this is all still new. As far as the schedule we use, I believe it is by a company named Tidal. My batch services are scheduled through Windows Server 2003.

I guess reisw meant to ask you about your NC services triggering schedule -- something like "Chrismas Eve", "2nd Monday" and such. What kinda NC schedule these NC services is on?

the 2 reports we run daily are on a 6:00 am daily 7 days per week schedule.

So, are these schedules "active"? If you do not turn off NCS NT Service and do not run database backup, will these services run without problems?

yes. On Saturday and Sunday evenings the services run fine.

That's strange. Any complains from the Log file? After you re-started your NCS NT Service, do you see your 6 AM job under the admin --> scheduled service? I have never heard of this problem. Are you checking with the support?

I have actually been up watching at 6:00 am. The service always starts then after about 10 minutes it fails with strange log messages that it loses communication with the I-Server though the I-Server is running fine. I haven't gone to tech support yet -- that is the next step.
