After you have sent an email in Outlook, it remembers your name. I have noticed that on several machines mine comes up incorrect and recently we have had 2 employees get married and their names have changed but this is not updated. When my name is typed it resolves to "Chris Smith <csmith45341134>" I have no idea where the numbers came from or how to get rid of them. When you modify an employee it comes up "Just Married <Maidenname>". Since htis is on multiple machines I do not believe it is an outlook issue.

Any ideas on how to correct this problem.

Yeah, I tried that. When you add a users name in again it displays the incorrect name again which is why I think it is something on the server.

Under the Exchange general tab the alias does not match what is coming up. I have also verified the X400 under email addresses is correct and the general and account tabs are correct.

Well it has been a little over a week and it still displays incorrectly. It is mostly correct but I still cannot find where this information is being pulled from. Lets say Jane Doe marries John Smith so her new name is Jane Smith. After all the changes are made and the nk2 file is deleted the display still comes up "Jane Smith <jdoe>". Her account was renamed jsmith and jdoe was removed in AD. Where else could this information be stored?

So you looked thru every tab in AD? Are you sure?
I have changed users name before and I haven't ecounter what you have.

Go back to the PC delete the profile and add it in again?

absolutely positive I have changed everything I can find in AD and under the exchange tabs. The weird thing is that I also have numbers following my name which have never been added.

I took a new PC and installed outlook and configured a new users account on the machine. Same thing. After you send a message and it is cached it shows the old account following the new name. Is it possible that the mailbox is the old name and it is coming from there? When I go under exchange system admin it shows the correct full names. Are the mailboxes stored under an original user account name possibly?

??

last resort.
exmerge - del - recreate user - exmerge back the pst?

well, when you change user names and all that it doesn't change the "name" property in AD which (consequently) is the name that is displayed in ADUC. So, if you change my login id from SteveMCSE to SteveMCSEMarried and change my firstname and lastname and display name and email address and all the other options you can see in ADUC you still won't have changed the "name" property.

open adsiedit.msc and navigate to the user and get the properties. You can edit many of them here. I don't recommend changing "name" because it has other unforseen implications, but if you really really really want to, do it on a fake user account first and make sure everything else still works (logging in, accessing resources, opening mailbox, etc). I don't know if it will break a lot or anything at all.

This property shouldn't be the property that is used in the display name, but since you've checked all other properties, try it. Let me know if it works.

GOOD LUCK!

I'd have you check 2 things.

First I am assuming that your clients are using Cached mode. If so what you THINK is the GAL is really the OAB. Look in the Offlien Address Book and see how you ar elisted. Then turn off cached mode and try again. Should be different. If I am correct, then you will want to force an updatre of the OAB in System Manager. Once that has been done, allow 24-48 hours for it to get down to the PCs depending on the size of your GAL.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Using adsiedit I did find one location that was using the original name. This was Exchange legacy. I am going to modify a test account first and verify it does not cause any other issues.

I will update everyone when this is completed.

Thanks!!

Markdmac, some clients are in cached mode and some are not. The problem still exists with both users. I looked in the Offline Address Book and it is the same. I modified the account using adsiedit on Friday and let it go for hte weekend figuring everything should be fully propogated by now and the problem still exists. I have not a clue where the issue could be coming from. I am 100% positive this is not an issue with the the client machines because I have just set up aqnother machine this morning with a fresh build and just added it to the network and installed Outlook. The issue is still there. This makes absolutely no sense.

The only other thing I could suggest would be to thoroughly look through all user properties in AD Users & Computers. You should be able to change everything from there. Also make sure that you have updated their SMTP address. The Recipient Update policy can do it for you automatically if you foce an update on that.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

teqmod - I am experiencing the same issue on my exchange server. Were to able to locate and correct the issue?

Nope never found a cause for it. I still look into the problem every now and then but since the system is working with no other issues it is not a priority.

Is it possible that the wrong addresses are stored in the contacts of the mailboxes that are resolving to them?

I had the exact same issue. I ran adsiedit, changed the exchange legacy attribute, and thought I had fixed the problem. When I typed in the name I no longer saw the old name flash up next to it. Problem was, the user account I had made the change to could no longer receive e-mail! Typical Microsoft. I had to change the legacy attribute back to the same value it was before to get the guy's e-mail account working again. I'm glad to see that somebody else has this issue. Now if only we could fix it.
