I see #Name? in several control fields in a form I am working on. I realize that this displays when there is no such field in the field list. The problem here is that the fields exist in the table that the form is based on but the fields are not on the field list in the form. I've checked spelling, control source properties, etc. apparently I am missing something. Any ideas would be appreciated.

'the fields exist in the table that the form is based on but the fields are not on the field list in the form'

Then you must be mistaken in your understanding of the form's recordsource. I imagine the recordsource is a query which only selects some of the fields from the table.

Open the form in design mode. Make sure the "Properties" window is open. (From the menu, "View" -> "Properties")

Select the form by clicking on the square box in the top left where the verticle and horizontal rulers meet.

Select the RecordSource of the "Data" tab in the "Properties" window. If the form is based on a Table, you will see the name of the table. If the form is based on a query, then click on the "..." command button that appears to the right to open the Query Builder to better view the query.

Then click on each control that displays "#Name" error. Look at the value in the "ControlSource" on the "Data" tab of the Properties window.

The names should match the actual name of the field in the table.

Is the form bound to a CrossTab query ?

Ie A query or SQL string that contains the word TRANSPOSE instead of SELECT

If so then it is a result of there not being any data in the PIVOT part of the dataset that relates to the missing field names.

To get around the problem you have to add a dummy table that does contain all of the options and LEFT JOIN it to the rest before feeding that lot into the Transpose.

I made the table the report's recordsource and that got rid of all my error messages. Thanks
